CBSE Cluster XVIII Football Tournament 2018-19 kickstarted on 7 Oct 2018 in the premises of host Saint Soldier International School, Sec 28 B, Chandigarh. Over 54 teams from the North Zone (Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh) are participating in this grand football mega event to win the highly acclaimed trophy. The matches will be played from 7th to 10th October in the school ground and Sports Complex, Sec 46 Chandigarh.
Mr. Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director, Sports, Chandigarh Administration was the esteemed Chief Guest for the opening ceremony. He was graciously welcomed by the school band, management and the student council. The opening ceremony commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by a harmonized march past of all the participating teams. Principal Ms. Vijaya Sidhu welcomed all present and extended her warm wishes to the participants. The honourable chief guest Mr. Tejdeep Singh Saini declared the Football Tournament open. The school Sports Head Boy, Arnav Rana administered the oath to the participating teams. Mr. Ravinder Pal Singh Hayer, Chairman of the school, presented a memento to the distinguished chief guest as a token of appreciation. Director Mr. Jagwinder Pal Singh accompanied the Chief Guest who met the players of the opening match.
On the first day of the CBSE Cluster XVIII Football Tournament 2018-19, many thrilling matches were watched by the spectators who were present to cheer up the participants. The very first match of the tournament began amidst great zeal and vigour.
In the Under 19 Category St. Stephen School, Togan defeated St. Vivekanand Millennium School, Pinjore by 3-0. Tushaar of the winning team posted the first goal in the 24th minute of the match whereas Vishal and Karanveer scored two goals in 34th and 40th minute respectively. In the second match of (Under 19 category) Durga Public School, Barog got a walkover against Paragon School, Sec 71 Mohali. In another match, SD Public School, Sec 32 Chd won against St. Luke’s School, Solan by 1-0. Aman scored the lone goal for his team in the 15th minute of the match.
In the Under 17 Category, Shishu Niketan, Sec 43, Chandigarh registered a convincing victory over Air Force School, Sec 31 Chandigarh by 7-0. Yuvraj posted the first goal in the 5th minute. Girwar shot the second goal in the 10th minute. Parminder netted 2 goals in 25th and 39th minute respectively. Another two goals were scored by Pratap and Manveer in the 30th and 34th minute of the match while Girwar shot the 7th goal and in the match between Cecil Convent School, Ambala Cantt and Kundan International School Sec 46 Chd, walkover was given to Kundan Intl. School. Shanti International Public School, Himachal Pradesh got a walkover against Gurukul Global School, Manimajra. Haryana Model School, Panchkula thrashed Green Valley Public School, Rurki Heeran by 4-0. Ajay single handedly led his team to victory by scoring four goals in 8th, 12th, 18th and 34th minute of the match.
