To spread awareness about ill – effects of using plastic, various activities and competitions were organized at Saint Soldier International School, Sector 28 B, Chandigarh from 24 September, 2019 to 01 October 2019.
More than 300 students took pledge to make India plastic free. The NSS volunteers extensively took part in the cleanliness drive in which students and supporting staff cleaned up every nook and corner of the school. Students were encouraged to develop and maintain the habit of keeping surroundings clean and green.
Green School Drive was organized with full zeal and passion by both students and the faculty members. Planting of saplings of some popular medicinal plants like Aloevera, Tulsi, Giloy etc. was done in the school garden. A short movie on Conservation of water was shown to the students of classes I-V, to make earth plastic free. Students were reinforced to completely stop using single use plastic. Items of plastic were discarded by the students and alternate products were suggested by the teachers. Students made beautiful paper bags to replace the plastic bags. Finally, a rally was taken out to spread the message of ‘Say No to Plastic’ in the nearby residential area.
Painting competition was organized for the students of classes VIII-XII on ‘Say no to Single Use Plastic’, in which Ruchika of XII Arts got first prize, Eshika of same class got the second prize and third prize was shared by Hardik and Shaili of XI Arts. Also a letter writing competition, “Letter to Bapu” was organized for the students of class V conveying their contribution to Swachhata Mission.
The whole program not only sensitized the students about ill effects of plastic, but also encouraged them to use alternate means.
