A Workshop titled ‘Women’s Health: Importance of Early Screening’ was organised for teachers of Saint Soldier International School, Sec 28 B, Chandigarh. The resource person was Dr. Ritambhra Bhalla, Gynecologist from Cloudnine Hospital, Chandigarh. The resource person discussed the modern day epidemic of lifestyle diseases like obesity, depression and hypertension which have resulted in problems like breast cancer, infertility and menstrual disorders like polycystic ovarian disease. The teachers were sensitized on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and the importance of detection through regular screening by way of Pap smear and Transvaginal Sonography. There was an initiative to dispel misconceptions around menopause and to inform about the increased risk of developing Osteoporosis. Dr. Bhalla also threw light on the issue of abnormal cellular change that could lead to cervical cancer and recommended the HPV vaccine as a precautionary measure. The workshop concluded with a beautiful message of ageing gracefully by being healthy, happy and accepting the inevitable change rather that seeing it as an aberrant crisis. It was an interactive session in which questions were asked and encouraged. ‘Cloudnine We’ cards with attractive offers were distributed at the end.
